Chennai: The Chennai International Airport witnessed some tense moments early Tuesday morning following a hoax bomb threat to a Qatar Airways flight coming from Doha. Airport sources said that an anonymous caller rang up a police station at Mangalore, stating that 'a human bomb' belonging to an Islamic organisation, travelling in the Chennai bound flight, would blow up after the flight landed.
The Karnataka DGP was immediately informed, who in turn alerted his Tamil Nadu counterpart, D Mukherjee. The Tamil Nadu DGP at once alerted the Chennai Airport following which bomb disposal squads were put on alert.
As soon as the flight landed in Chennai, checks were carried out.
The team, along with sniffer dogs, frisked all 177 passengers and combed the aircraft for nearly two hours, before concluding that it was a hoax call.
