Patel open to review of aviation policy

Civil aviation minister Praful Patel said on Thursday that the government was open to reviewing the five-year domestic criterial for allowing airlines to launch international services.
He also indicated that the protection available to Indian Airlines and Air-India in the Gulf market might be scrapped by allowing Jet Airways to enter this segment by the beginning of 2008. The civil aviation ministry has forwarded a comprehensive civil aviation policy to the Union Cabinet, Mr Patel said.
The much-awaited policy, pending for years, has been renamed as Vision 2020 and it deals with Indian avaition sector requirements upto 2020 and beyond.
