SriLankan Airlines to focus on India

Beijing: Sri Lanka's national carrier will support a campaign to promote India as a must-see destination for Chinese and Japanese tourists by offering flexible and convenient flight schedules, a senior company official has said.
"One of the things that I discussed with my team here is how we should focus on India," regional manager of SriLankan Airlines (Far East and Asia Pacific) Kaushal Seneviratne told newspersons here.
"Our focus so far has been on traffic to Colombo, Maldives, some to Europe and Thailand. I have asked our office here to try and put a bit more focus on India on tourism as well as on the ethnic Indian community," he said.
"I know there is not a big Indian ethnic community, but whatever is there, we really want to work closely with them. In all the markets where we are, we work closely with the ethnic Indian community than the other national carriers," he said.
Basically, Seneviratne said, "our focus is on India. Actually, our last year's worldwide conference was entitled 'India, India, India'. So you can see that the message to the field was very clear. Your future is in India," he said while acknowledging that the strife in Sri Lanka was hurting the country's tourism sector.
