Flights to & from Muscat hit

New Delhi: The powerful storm which hit the coast of Oman has affected flights to and from the region in India, including Delhi. The Oman airport has been closed and communication lines and airspace in the region have been closed.
At IGI alone, six flights to the Gulf were cancelled, three each on Wednesday and Thursday. Officials said flights of India, AI Express and Oman Air have been affected. Muscat, the capital of Oman, is the worst hit.
An AI Express spokesperson said: "Services to the Gulf have been affected. All flights to the region have to be rerouted to fly over Pakistan and Iran and we are awaiting permission for that." AI Express has 10 flights to Muscat from India every week. AI flights to Muscat from Thiruvananthapuram, Cochin, Mangalore and Calicut were cancelled. A longer route has been charted for two AI flights — Mumbai-Bahrain-Doha and Pune-Dubai so that they can reach their destinations.
