MDLR starts flights from Kolkata

Kolkata: Newly floated regional carrier MDLR Airlines launched its Kolkata operations on Monday with flights to Delhi, Chandigarh and Ranchi. Within the next couple of months, the airline plans to connect Kolkata with Port Blair, Goa, Visakhapatnam and Bhubaneswar.
MDLR Airlines president Kaustav Dhar said that Kolkata would soon emerge as the second hub for the airline after Delhi. The carrier has a fleet of two four-engine regional jets — AVRO RJ 70. Each aircraft offers a configuration of six business and 64 economy seats.
The airline that currently has the regional operator licence will seek a regular service airline licence by this year end when it has six AVRO regional jets. The current Director General of Civil Aviation guidelines mandates that a carrier should have the five aircraft of same type in its fleet to apply for regular operator status.
