Doha: The Indian (formerly Indian Airlines) has no plans to introduce additional flights to Indian destinations during this summer to meet the huge peak-season rush, an airline official said yesterday.
All Indian flights to Calicut and Kochi in Kerala have been fully booked until mid-July.
The airline does not plan additional flights because Air-India Express, the low-cost carrier, which is also flying to Kochi and Calicut and has announced four additional flights for the summer. It is planning to add another three flights to these two destinations either in the last week of this month and the first week of July, said the official.
The official said, cancellation of the Kochi-Calicut-Doha flight of Indian (formerly Indian Airlines) flight on Wednesday was not caused by the strike launched by the airline's staff in India, sources from the Doha office of the airline said here yesterday.
The strike, which was called off yesterday, had no impact in Doha, the sources said. Wednesday's flight was cancelled due to a technical snag with the aircraft, which was grounded at Kochi International Airport in Kerala.
