Pune: On July 4, Indigo Airlines’ Assistant Manager of Customer Service and Security at the airport, Vaibhav Poman, was overlooking security arrangements following the arrival of the Bangalore-Pune-Nagpur Indigo flight no 6E 136.
While carrying out the ‘Anti Sabotage Check & Transit Check’, one of the passengers, Nilay Daga , a businessman from Baitul, Madhya Pradesh, allegedly refused to co-operate.
Poman said that Daga claimed to have contacts in ‘high places’. “He said his father, Vinod Daga is an MLA from Baitul constituency in Madhya Pradesh and his father-in-law is also a politician,” Poman said.
He said adding that Daga in a fit of rage slapped him for repeatedly being asked to adhere to airport security norms.
Later, while Daga’s wife was permitted to board the flight, Daga himself was offloaded and detained by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) for causing ‘Unlawful Interference with Civil Aviation Security’. “After being offloaded, he started apologising profusely,” Poman said.
Daga was then handed over to the Lohegaon police chowki, where a non cognisable offence was registered against him. He was given a notice and released on the same day, said the PSI V B Mahendrikar.
