New Delhi: In a bid to speed up the construction of a world-class airport in Delhi, the city government on Tuesday decided to take a slew of measures to make changes in the sewage, water supply and power lines for the construction of a new runway.
At a meeting chaired by Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel, the Delhi government said the civic authorities would take urgent steps to move underground sewage channels, water pipes and power lines for the purpose.
Delhi Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit assured the ministry of full cooperation for speedy construction of a world-class airport before the 2010 Asian Games.
She also assured the meeting that residents of the Shahbad village near the IGI Airport would be shifted to another location soon.
A senior ministry official said a proposed gas pipeline of the Indian Oil Corporation would also need to be diverted for construction of the new runway.
