Indian airlines eye global tieups

New Delhi: With the on-going phase of consolidation, the aviation industry is also witnessing the dawn of a new era of global alliances. According to sources, the state-run carrier Air-India is all set to join the Star Alliance in the coming few weeks.
Air-India is not the only one. According to sources, even Jet Airways is evaluating the option of joining another alliance — One World.
With domestic traffic in India growing at 40-50% per annum and in-ternational at 20% per annum, India is strongly emerging as a lucrative market for any global alliance. Though Star Alliance has not given its verdict, chances are that Air- India will be inducted into the group soon, sources said. Air-India's strong relationship with Lufthansa will also make its in-duction in the alliance easier.
Star Alliance is the world s largest airline grouping, currently running 16,930 daily flights to 842 airports in 152 countries.
