Belgrade: According to the government, the privatization of the national carrier Jat Airways will be finalized by the end of the month.
Infrastructure Minister Velimir Ilic said that the Privatization Agency will implement a privatization plan for Jat in line with all regulations, and that there will be "no favoritism."
“Bidders have sent their offers for the privatization of Jat and this will be done by the Agency according to existing laws. None of the companies will have special treatment," Ilic said.
Jat has received many privatization offers, the most serious ones coming from Russia’s Aeroflot and Air India.
Economy Minister Mladan Dinkic wants to have Jat’s privatization finished before summer recess.
Jat Airways Director Nebojša Starcevic told B92 that the best privatization model for the company would be forming an enterprise with a strategic partner. Starcevic explained that would be faster than the sale in a tender, which would last in between a year and a year and a half.
