Mumbai: India's financial capital will soon boast of an airport hotel - which would not be near Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA) but right on top of a new terminal.
The GVK-backed Mumbai International Airport Pvt Ltd (MIAL) is going to build a new domestic terminal, 1C, between existing 1A and 1B. What's more, this new building will have a hotel and office complex right on top that will allow high flying executives to hold meetings at the airport itself without the ordeal of wading through the city's choked roads.
"The new terminal will be ready by next December at a cost of Rs 200 crore. It will have an arrival area and five boarding gates but no check-in counters. It will also connect the 1A and 1B buildings," said G V Sanjay Reddy, MIAL MD. The hotel and office complex will come a little later once the ATC tower is shifted. The raised terminal height of 1C, once the commercial complex is built, will not allow people manning the ATC tower from its current location an unhindered view of the operational area.
