Cargoitalia expands fleet with B747Fs

Cargoitalia has signed a wet-lease agreement with US-based Tradewinds Airlines for two Boeing 747-200Fs.
According to recently-appointed chairman of the board, Stan Wraight, the aircraft will be used to fly North Atlantic services from Italy and destinations are to include Atlanta, New York, Chicago, Houston and Mexico.
Wraight said that services were scheduled to start on 7 October following the delivery of the first aircraft. The second aircraft is due to commence operations following delivery on 14 October.
The new additions will boost Cargoitalia’s fleet to four dedicated freighters. The current DC-10 will be retained and will operate on routes to the Middle East and India. The airline’s MD-11, leased from Gemini, will also continue operating services to Shanghai, routing via India, with frequencies increased to three per week.
