Kolkata: Air India Express, the low cost airline from the stable of the National Aviation Company of India Limited — formed after the merger of Air India and Indian — would be starting international flights from Kolkata to Singapore on October 7, and the tail of the flights would carry a picture of the Victoria Memorial.
“We are trying to position Air India Express as the symbol of India. So, we have decided to put symbols of Indian heritage on either side of the tail of all Air India Express flights,” said the V Thulasidas, Chairman of National Aviation. Air India Express already operates flights carrying the symbols of heritage monuments like the India Gate and the Gateway of India.
In the next two months, Air India Express intends to start direct flights from Kolkata to Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and Dhaka. While the flights to Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok would operate thrice a week, nine flights would operate between Dhaka and Kolkata in a week.
Fares for the Singapore flight starting tomorrow would be Rs 1,999 plus taxes for the day, and Rs 3,999 plus taxes till October 15. Subsequently, the fare would be increased to Rs 4,999 plus taxes. All Air India Express flights are Boeing 737-800 aircrafts that have been recently purchased.
