Two passengers caught smoking on flight, let off

New Delhi: In a serious security lapse, two persons were caught smoking on a domestic flight last Friday. The incident occurred as the duo managed to take in either a match box or a lighter - both of which are banned from being taken on board as they could be used to start a fire. While announcements are routinely made on domestic flights that smoking is not allowed, the two were let off lightly - after a reprimand.
The incident happened on SpiceJet’s Bangalore-Mumbai-Ahmedabad flight (SG 116) on September 28. The smoke alarm in the cockpit went off and the pilot informed the cabin crew.
During checking, the crew found two persons were smoking in the rear toilets. When the toilet door opened, there was smell of cigarette smoke.,’’ said an airline spokesperson. The two passengers were handed over to security agencies in Mumbai and are learnt to have been let off after being reprimanded.
