Airbus Wins $13.5 Billion Order From Dubai Aerospace

Airbus SAS, the world's biggest planemaker, won a preliminary order for 100 aircraft valued at about $13.5 billion from Dubai Aerospace Enterprise's leasing unit, the Middle East company's first purchase.
DAE signed a letter of intent covering 70 A320 family aircraft and 30 A350 XWBs, according to a statement handed to reporters at the Dubai Air Show today. The planes will be delivered from 2013 to 2022. The price includes Rolls-Royce Group Plc engines to power the A350s, valued at $1.2 billion, according to the statement.
The contract helps Airbus widen its lead over Boeing Co. in winning orders from customers in the Middle East. The European planemaker yesterday won a $31 billion order from Emirates, the Arab region's largest carrier, and a $2 billion order from National Air Services. The order may help Dubai Aerospace compete with General Electric Co.'s leasing unit.
