Airport fracas over flight delays

Kolkata: A Bangalore-bound Spice Jet flight was delayed for over 13 hours while another Mumbai-bound JetLite flight was delayed for over five hours on Wednesday evening after both aircraft developed technical snags. Passengers complained that they had been kept in the dark during the entire period.
The Spice Jet flight was scheduled to take off at 8.10 am but departed at 9.30 am. Passengers staged a demonstration before the authority and then a few of them were refunded the fare. Finally, the flight departed with the rest of the 85 passengers.
In a similar incident, the 145-odd passengers booked on Mumbai-bound JetLite flight SW 704 arrived at Kolkata airport for the 4.20 pm departure.
But after they boarded the aircraft, the inordinate delay began. The plane remained stranded till 6.30 pm before the captain announced the technical snag and asked the passengers to disembark.
After the passengers disembarked, they were told that they would board another aircraft that would depart around 8 pm. They were served refreshment.
Just prior to 8 pm, the passengers boarded the second plane. But the wait didn't end.
JetLite officials, when contacted, said the aircraft had developed a hydraulic problem that could not be rectified.
