Centre clears Rs 150 cr for Chandigarh airport

New Delhi: The civil aviation minister, Praful Patel, is believed to have sanctioned Rs 150 crore for the expansion of the Chandigarh airport, which provides easy connectivity to not only Punjab and Haryana but also to Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. On its part, Punjab reportedly wants to have a second international airport near Mohali.
Praful Patel also appears to have found merit in Independent Rajya Sabha MP from Haryana and former chairman of the National Commission for Minorities Tarlochan Singh’s forceful plea for establishing the state’s first domestic airport in Hisar and second international airport close to the national Capital in Jhajjar rather than scouting for a place nearly 100 km away in Uttar Pradesh.
