Bangalore: Air passengers are getting cold feet about the current cold wave. The winter schedule is operational and the next three months will see mist or fog early morning. As a consequence, flights will be invariably delayed. Air travellers have to track weather and flight schedules — if it’s foggy, delays could occur anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours, as it happened last week.
On Friday, light mist early in the morning and traffic congestion delayed arrival of flights at HAL airport by 30 minutes to an hour. The mist crept in around 5.45 am and lifted by 6.30 am. Flights from Chennai, Kolkata and Delhi were delayed by 30 minutes.
According to met department authorities, the airport would have higher fog levels than the city as the airport is close to a lake.
Landing and take-off at Bangalore airport is possible only if visibility is 1,500 metres around the aircraft, because the airport has Category 1 landing system.
