Disaster in the making?

With ten bird hits and at least two air misses being reported national every month, increasing accidents have become a matter of grave concern for aviation experts.
More than 50 meat shops in a radius of less than half km of the airport are attracting scavengers and the squalor alike posing a direct threat of bird-hits to approaching aircrafts despite strict aviation laws.
Mumbai manages at least 30 per cent of the country air traffic and with Indian airports handling around 60,000 flights every month, one in every 5,000 flights faces the danger of either an air-collision or a bird hit, statically.
Philip Cash, Airport Director explained, ''BMC is very much aware of this issue and I think you have to take a broader view and say, it's the meat shops."
It's a disaster waiting to happen. And when TIMES NOW demanded answers from the Mumbai Municipal commissioner. This was his response.
Jairaj Pathak, BMC Commissioner responded, "I am not going to answer. When do I work if I keep meeting the press all the time. I will not say anything. I have work to do."
