New Delhi: To cope with the rising number of air passengers, a need has arisen for additional aircraft even after the delivery of the current lot in 2011, Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel said on Thursday.
The National Aviation Company of India Limited (NACIL) has informed that there is a need for additional aircraft, he said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha.
The minister said an in-house Joint Working Group has been constituted by NACIL to prepare a concept paper on strategic network and capacity deployment plan.
To a separate query, Patel replied there was a shortage of Air Traffic Control Officers (ATCO) in the country. "As against the sanctioned strength of 1707, there are 1504 ATCOs," he said.
