Nagpur: 140 passengers of Jet Airways flight 9W-116, scheduled to depart for Mumbai at 9.30 pm on Tuesday, had to sit through total darkness on the plane for 20 minutes. The plane finally took off at around 3.30 am on Wednesday.
Archana Nayudu, one of the passengers on the plane, recounted her experience: "We were initially told that there had been a technical snag, and the flight was delayed till 10.40 pm. The time was soon pushed further back to 11 pm, and we were made to wait in the lounge, despite some passengers demanding overnight stay at some hotel in the city," she said.
"Then, as soon as we boarded the plane at 11 pm, all the lights in the plane went off! And it remained that way for 20 minutes. Even the crew members seemed clueless as to what was happening.." she added.
"After 20 minutes, we were informed that there had been some major technical snag, and were made to alight from the plane, and brought back to the lounge.... The replacement aircraft arrived much later, and only after another security check did we leave at 3.30 am," she said.
Speaking to TOI, an official with Jet Airways said the blackout inside the plane was a power unit failure.
