Season's first fog delays flights

New Delhi: The winter fog made its first official appearance at IGI Airport on Friday morning, leading to delays which hit, among others, the Indian cricket team in Gwalior. The players were waiting for their chartered flight from Delhi to take them to Jaipur for the fifth one day match against Pakistan.
According to sources, visibility fell to about 500 metres on Friday morning and low visibility procedures (LVP) had to be implemented from 6 am to 7 am. With visibility improving only marginally over the next few hours, only the primary runway was in use for almost four hours in the morning, leading to delays due to air traffic congestion.
Many flights were delayed by half-an-hour to one-and-a-half-hours in the morning and early afternoon, though schedules normalised by evening.
The weather upset schedules even in the south with Bangalore reeling under delays due to fog. A Kingfisher flight that was to come from Bangalore at 10 am landed in Delhi at 11.40 am. Its departure for Bangalore was delayed further due to air traffic congestion over Delhi.
