New Delhi: The announcement from these airlines comes a week after ET highlighted how passengers on short duration flights were being made to pay the same fuel surcharge (Rs 1,650) as passengers on longer flights. In effect the short duration flight passengers were being made to subsidise the cost of travel for long duration flight passengers.
“SpiceJet is working on a model to introduce lower fuel surcharge on-flights which are of less than 90 minutes...” SpiceJet CFO Partha Sarathi Basu said.
GoAir MD Jeh Wadia agrees: “You will soon hear some announcements on this from our side. We are evaluating differential pricing of surcharges for shorter and longer routes.”
Simplifly Deccan is also planning to attract more travellers into its fold.
Airlines will, however, need to make changes in their IT systems for implementing the same.
But Ankur Bhatia, MD of Amadeus, a global airline distribution system, does not think it would be difficult.
