An Airports Authority of India employee was found dead in his official apartment in the airport colony at Vile Parle on Friday night. Gautam Kumar Bhattacharya, 53, from West Bengal used to live alone in the airport quarters.
His colleague and neighbour Samir Kumar Choudhary informed the police on Friday that a foul smell was coming out of Bhattacharya’s room, D-11.
A team of officers from the Vile Parle police station reached the spot and found the room locked from outside.
The police found Bhattacharya’s decomposed body in the living room after breaking open the lock. His body was taken to Cooper Hospital for a post-mortem.
“The initial post-mortem report says his ribs were fractured. He was probably murdered four days ago,” said Harvindar Kaur Waraich, assistant commissioner of police.
