New Delhi: Within 24 hours of receiving notices from Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) over the issue of taxes and surcharge, Kingfisher and Jet Airways rushed in with their replies on Friday.
The directorate had asked them to clarify the clubbing of fuel and congestion cess of Rs 1,800 under the head of taxes and surcharge and perhaps giving impression to passengers that this entire amount was going to the exchequer. These two airlines had not replied so far and the ministry had asked them to either do so by January 4 or face strict action, that could mean revoking air operator’s licence.
"Kingfisher has admitted receiving our showcause and apologised for the delay in replying earlier. They have denied having any intention of violating the permit clause. They have requested that no action be initiated and that the government’s queries would be answered by January 4," said a senior DGCA official.
Jet, the official said, had admitted that 6-8% of their online bookings may have showed the total cost component divided in two components basic fare and taxes.
