Kolkata: An apparent communication error by a travel agency triggered chaotic scenes at Kolkata airport on Sunday morning, with 20 passengers refusing to board a Kingfisher flight to Indore because seven of them had been re-booked on another flight.
The passengers were headed for an all-India LIC conference in Indore but due to newly-applied weight restrictions on the Kolkata-Indore flight, seven of them were moved to another Kingfisher flight, which had a stopover at Ahmedabad.
The passengers say they learnt about the problem only when they arrived at the airport on Sunday morning. "We booked the tickets through Praveen Travel Agency on October 3. There has been no communication since then. It was only when we went to the check-in counter that we were informed about the change," said V K Tandon, one of the passengers who had been shunted out of the Kolkata-Indore flight.
Although there was sufficient time for the seven passengers to check into the other flight and reach Indore via Ahmedabad, they refused.
An airline official tried to explain the issue of weight limitations but the passengers would hear nothing of it and broke into a loud argument. Finally, all 20 passengers refused to board the flight and filed a complaint against the Kingfisher Airlines official at the airport police station.
