Dubai: President George W Bush's visit to Dubai had an effect on almost every resident. While airline passengers were cancelling their travel plans, some hotel staff were being put up in the five star accommodations where they work.
An Emirates spokesperson said that the airline had activated contingency plans to cope with the road closures "which worked well."
Indian Airlines Regional Manager Jayshree Ramchandran told Gulf News that the flights out of Dubai which usually fly out at capacity had 60 per cent occupancy. "There were a number of cancellations but all our flights operated on time," she said.
A Silverjet flight was delayed due to "the unexpected closure of Airport Road," said a spokesperson, and a British Airways flight out of Dubai was delayed by one hour.
Some of the many hotels that dot Shaikh Zayed Road at the First Interchange were also affected by the road closures.
