New Delhi: Scores of flights were delayed at the Delhi international airport due to dense fog on Monday, especially in the early morning hours.
Sources said that at least a hundred domestic and international flights were delayed and five were cancelled due to bad weather conditions at the Delhi airport.
"Low visibility procedures (LVP) were implemented early in the morning at about 3.40 am when the runway visibility range dropped to 650 meters, which lasted for more than six hours and were terminated at around 11.30 am, affecting flight services badly," stated Dial officials, adding that during that period alone, more than hundred flights (80 domestic and 20-odd international flights) were operated.
The worst fog conditions prevailed from 6.15 am to 9.30 am when CAT III(a) was initiated.
However, visibility remained low till 5 pm, with the runway visibility range around 1,500 metres which affected the working on the second runaway and seriously adding to further delays in the flights.
Airport officials added that the delay time varied from half-an-hour to six hours and the passengers were stranded for hours.
