Thiruvananthapuram: An Indian flight bound for Delhi was delayed by one and a half hours here following overbooking but among those at the receiving end was Defence Minister A K Antony.
The reason for the delay, according to Indian officials, was a technical snag. But sources said the flight was overbooked and boarding passes were issued in excess of available seats.
Some of the passengers had to be offloaded, after which Flight IC 168, scheduled to leave at 2.55 pm, left at 4.35 pm. Offloading and overbooking are routine with the Gulf-bound flights. Airline sources attributed it to the post-Xmas New Year rush.
Incidentally, Antony was not the only VIP to get a taste of airline apathy. Kerala Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan was stranded for more than six hours at Nedumbassery on the New Year’s Day when the crew of the Sharjah-bound Air India Express struck work.
