Mumbai/Kochi: The exclusive authority of the public sector airlines, Air India and Indian, over the high density air-routes between India and the Gulf for several decades was broken on Saturday when Jet Airways flagged off its flights to Bahrain and Kuwait from three Indian cities — Kochi, Mumbai and Delhi.
The flights have put the Gulf on Jet’s rapidly expanding air-map that already includes Singapore, Malaysia in the far-east, London and Brussels in Europe and New York in the United States.
“Jet will start its operations to the Gulf from Thiruvananthapuram by the middle of this year,” Jet Airways executive vice president (commercial), Sudheer Raghavan told reporters in Kochi.
