Mumbai: A 75-year-old Portuguese national died on board an Air India London-Mumbai flight minutes before it landed on Thursday morning.
Whether the passenger sought medical assistance on board was not known. "The passenger, by the name Kalame, was dead when the flight landed at the Mumbai airport," said a source.
According to the Mumbai International Airport Pvt Ltd (MIAL) spokesperson, they received a call at 11.15 am saying that medical assistance and a doctor would be needed as there was an emergency on board flight AI 130. "The flight landed at 11.45 pm and our doctor learnt that the passenger was declared dead at 10.40 am by a doctor on board. The patient’s past history could not be known as he was travelling alone," the official said.
The airline spokesperson confirmed the incident, but could not give details of the nature of medical emergency.
