CMYK Printech Ltd, which owns and publishes English daily The Pioneer, has won the open bid to publish ‘Namaskar’, the in-flight magazine of Air-India. The bid was held at the Air-India headquarters in Mumbai on February 1.
There were four bidders in all – Mediascope (an existing player), Dubai-based Concept Media, Durgadas Publications and CMYK Printech. While Mediascope quoted a price of Rs 36 lakh in addition to 50 per cent of profit per annum, Concept Media quoted Rs 86 lakh; Durgadas Publications quoted Rs 51 lakh, while CMYK Printech quoted Rs 2.10 crore per annum.
Durbar Ganguly, Vice-Chairman and Joint MD of CMYK Printech, said, “It is a major victory for us and we hope to run it successfully. The quality of the magazine would be improved. Air-India, which so far was earning Rs 36 lakh per year, would now earn Rs 2.10 crore. This bid is valid for the next three years. ‘Namaskar’ earlier printed 20,000 copies per month, but now the bidder has to supply 50,000 copies of the magazine.”
