Pvt airports hike fee, airlines fret

New Delhi: Both DIAL and MIAL, developers of Delhi and Mumbai airport respectively, have changed the procedure for issuance of airfield driving and vehicle permits and enhanced various fees. This, even as the airports are being upgraded.
From February 1, 2008, a vehicle permit from DIAL (Delhi International Airport Limited), valid for a year, costs Rs 2,000. This is up from around Rs 300. Regular training courses for drivers, which were free earlier, will now be charged. Fees for theoretical training courses will be Rs 400 per applicant, written test, Rs 200 and practical test, Rs 250. And if even one part is failed, why then these fares apply all over again. There were no written tests earlier.
In addition, from March 1, DIAL will also issue parking permits for Rs 200 each; this was free earlier. The permit will assign a particular area for each vehicle.
MIAL (Mumbai International Airport Limited) too has hiked fees, effective from January 1, 2008. Airside vehicle operating permit, valid for two years, will cost Rs 3,000; airside vehicle pass (motorised) is Rs 5,000 yearly and airside vehicle/equipment (non-motorised) is Rs 500 yearly. Earlier, all were free, except airside vehicle pass which was Rs 250.
