Mumbai: The employees of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) have ended their non-cooperation after the Government assured them that it was willing to consider their demand of keeping the existing airports running at Bangalore and Hyderabad even as the new ones get set to start operations.
The agitation, which began Tuesday midnight, was called off following a meeting between Civil Aviation Minister, Praful Patel, Members of Parliament from the Left parties and representatives of two key workers' unions.
Patel assured the Authority Employees Joint Forum that no more airports would be closed down without consulting them and the AAI would be strengthened and made more profitable.
However, he did not commit anything on the thorny issue of keeping the old airports in Bangalore and Hyderabad open. The AAI employees had called the non-cooperation move to protest against the decision to close the existing airports in the two cities.
The non-cooperation move had limited impact on services at airports as officials at the Air Traffic Control (ATC) did not join the stir and the technical staff opted to protest rather than disrupt work. The impact was mostly seen on services like ground handling and housekeeping.
