Hyderabad: The Airport Authority of India employees called off their two-day long strike after the government assured them that it will seek legal opinion on whether the existing Hyderabad and Bangalore airports can remain open.
There were plans of shutting them down after the new airports start operating.
This is not a reality in Delhi yet, but in Hyderabad and Bangalore the long wait for a world-class airport is over.
For people in these cities, it will be a long drive once the existing airports are shut. It may take two hours to reach these airports from the city to catch a 40-minute flight.
Airport employees are not alone fighting for the existing airports even the airlines are worried.
Parliamentary Committee on Aviation said that every big international city has two or more airports. With growing air traffic, cities like Hyderabad and Bangalore will soon need a second airport.
Delhi and Mumbai are all set to get second airports without closing the existing ones.
Right now, the Centre says it's bound to close down the existing airports in Bangalore and Hyderabad but many want that decision reviewed.
