Air Deccan to withdraw from Dimapur

Dimapur : Come April, and India’s popular low cost carrier, Air Deccan, will withdraw its services on the (Dimapur – Kolkata) sector from March 30, 2008, subject to DGCA clearance.
Though it is almost certain that the services would discontinue, the airline stands committed to increasing air connectivity to the Northeast with plans to launch a new Boeing service (Kolkata – Guwahati – Jorhat) which will be effective in the Summer schedule (30th March – 28th October).
The Air Deccan services, earlier inaugurated with much pomp and show on March 26, 2007 completes exactly one year, as it plans to wind up its services on the Kolkata – Dimapur sector.
Vijaya Menon, head of corporate communications in an e-mail sent to Noel Manuel today pointed out that monitoring the ‘market’ for air travel and adjusting schedules accordingly from time to time has been the prerogative of the company. This means that Dimapur did not offer the kind of business the airline would have expected when it first started its operations here.
