Airport strike called off for now

Kolkata: The employees owing allegiance to Airport Authority Employees’ Union called off their non-cooperation agitation against the Airport Authority of India this evening.
The employees were agitating in protest against the government’s preference given to the new private international airports at Hyderabad and Bangalore which the employees feel, will adversely affect the interest of the airports owned by AAI.
However, throughout the day air passengers travelling to and from Kolkata continued to suffer the want of mandatory services they are supposed to get for which they pay passenger service fees (PSF) for every ticket.
Meanwhile the Joint Action Committee of Indian Airlines Limited (JACIAL) which expressed solidarity with AAEU also gave strike call for 18 March. The leaders of the committee went to the airport and talked to AAEU leadership.
