IGI to get another terminal

New Delhi: Foreign flyers may soon be catching flights from the largely unused Haj terminal in addition to IGI airport’s cramped international terminal.
The GMR-backed Delhi International Airport Pvt Ltd (DIAL) asked for this when officials from the aviation ministry and airlines did a round of the international airport at 2.30 am on Wednesday and saw for themselves how passengers were stuck in serpentine queues even in this lean travel season.
The team, led by the ministry’s joint secretary K N Srivastava, has asked DIAL to give a detailed plan for the Haj terminal - currently being used for only two months in a year - so that it can get all the required customs, immigration and other facilities and be used alongside the existing terminal. The airport was built to cater to 12 million passengers a year but the current flow is twice that.
Since the Haj terminal plan will take some time, DIAL has been asked to make improvements at the existing international terminal at the earliest.
