Thiruvananthapuram: Tension prevailed at the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport on Thursday after a section of the Airport Authority of India (AAI) staff who were on an indefinite strike was allegedly beaten up by the CISF personnel.
Though the nation-wide strike by AAI employees, which began on Tuesday midnight, was called off on Thursday afternoon, AAI workers here had decided to go ahead with the strike until disciplinary action is initiated against the CISF personnel who had beaten up the AAI officials. Flight services have not been affected by the strike so far.
According to sources, an AAI staffer, identified as Subramanian, was admitted to the General Hospital with injuries. He was later shifted to a private hospital. Two other AAI staff, Jayakumar and Sunil, also suffered minor injuries.
The employees were not ready for any compromise other than the immediate suspension and transfer of the CISF officials.
