Vijay Mallya says he’s finally killing the Deccan brand

Vijay Mallya, chairman of Kingfisher Airlines, which took over India’s pioneering no-frills carrier, said: “Deccan will cease to exist because, after the merger, there will be only one company and that will be Kingfisher Airlines.”
He did not say whether Kingfisher will have low-fare flights or what happens to those who have made advance bookings for no-frills Deccan flights. Mallya’s statement in Baramati on Thursday contradicts Air Deccan founder G R Gopinath’s earlier position that the two airlines would operate as separate entities even after the merger. Following the takeover by Kingfisher, Air Deccan was rebranded ‘Simplifly Deccan’ and surrendered major metro routes to Kingfisher.
Mallya said the Karnataka High Court-convened meeting to clear the merger will be held on April 17.
Once it gets the green signal, Kingfisher will fly abroad, he said.
“On March 17, the Director General of Civil Aviation gave Kingfisher the approval to fly abroad from August 28,” Mallya said.
