Chandigarh: Come August and the first international flight will take off from the upcoming international airport here.
To begin with, the authorities are planning to start the international flights for Bangkok, Singapore and other South East Asian Countries. The two main airlines, which are expected to start their operations from the city, include Silk Air, a regional wing of Singapore Airlines and Kingfisher Airlines.
The main issue that the Airport authorities were concerned about was that of customs and immigration. However, according to the sources the immigration office authorities have already conducted a survey and have agreed to open up their office. Talking to Newsline, Airport Controller, Sunil Dutt said, “To begin with we are focussing on the South East Asian Countries. Everything is being worked out in a phased manner and with everything going well we are expecting the first international flight from August onwards.”
