India expects Boeing Co. to compensate Air India Ltd. after the world's No. 2 commercial planemaker delayed delivery of its 787 Dreamliner for the third time in six months.
``We are disappointed by the delay in the delivery of the 787 aircraft, which was expected in the later part of this year,'' Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel told reporters in New Delhi today. The delay is affecting Air India's short-term needs, Patel said.
Boeing said yesterday the Dreamliner will be delayed until the third quarter of 2009. The 787, whose fuel efficiency amid rising oil prices has made it Boeing's most popular new plane ever, has been postponed three times since October and is at least 14 months behind the original schedule of May 2008.
Air India, based in Mumbai, has ordered 27 Dreamliner planes and 23 of the 777 aircraft to expand overseas routes.
