New Delhi: After two labourers died at the construction site since work started on the new integrated terminal at IGI airport, another accident involving a construction worker on Thursday night raised the ire of other labourers who went on the rampage and attacked the site office of the contractors.
According to sources, the angry crowd also apparently set fire to some thermacol and lose wood lying around, which required four fire tenders to reach the site immediately. The worker, 25-year-old Ramashish Paswan from Bihar, was apparently crushed under a pile of metal rods while he was working on the site at around 8 pm. "There was possibly a delay in taking Paswan to the hospital which is when the other workers started agitating. They attacked the office and may have set the fire as well," said sources.
Construction at the T3 site started in February 2006. This year, however, two deaths and one accident have already taken place.
As the project needs to be complete by March 31, 2010, work is being carried out at a frenetic pace here. However, sources say it is being done with little regard for safety.
