Indian automobile component manufacturers and tyre makers are planning to venture into uncharted territory of aircraft components production. Indian-based MRF Tyres, Minda NTS and Sundram Fasteners are moving ahead with plans to supply components to aircraft manufacturers.
Recently, American aircraft manufacturer Boeing, signed an agreement with Tata Automobile Limited (TAL) Manufacturing Solutions, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tata Motors. The Indian company would manufacture structural components for Boeing’s 787, Dreamliner airplane programme.
According to Ian Thomas, president of Boeing India, the company is planning for partnerships with Indian companies for different aircraft components. India’s leading tyre manufacturers MRF, has taken an initiative in this regard. The company is also making tyres for helicopters fore defence services.
