Mumbai airport to retain Chhatrapati Shivaji statue

Making it clear that there was no plan to alter the name of Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai as well as shifting of the location of the statue, the union civil aviation ministry today issued a statement strongly refuting the allegations.
The ministry clarified that the government of India has not given any permission for any such change. The name of the airport will continue to remain Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, Mumbai and the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji will always remain at the international airport.
The statement issued by the ministry said that the minister for civil aviation, Praful Patel, has directed the promoters of the Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL) to keep in mind the local sensibilities while undertaking the upgradation and modernisation of the Mumbai Airport. He has given clear directions that no changes are to be made to the airport, which could hurt the local sentiments.
