Employee trouble continues at Nacil, the entity formed after the merger of Air India and Indian Airlines. Just three days after Raghu Menon took over as Nacil's chairman and MD, some employees of the airline's commercial wing are protesting "unethical" promotions and appointments finalised by outgoing CMD V. Thulasidas in the last 72 hours of his tenure, which ended on March 31.
And even though Thulasidas has categorically denied any irregularity in appointments to DNA Money, this episode could just deepen the discontent many Nacil employees have been feeling ever since the two airlines merged last year.
A senior Nacil employee said on condition of anonymity, "During the last 72 hours of Thulasidas' tenure, 30 general managers and deputy GMs were promoted on an officiating basis, bypassing the regular selection process. Sometimes, the appointment letters were backdated. This is obviously not acceptable to us and our colleagues in the commercial department are meeting the commercial director this evening to register protest. We want the civil aviation ministry to intervene in such a matter."
But Thulasidas was categorical in stating that "no letters have been back-dated". Asserting that he held the CMD's position till March 31, Thulasidas said, "whatever decisions have been taken were for the merger process and this process remains ongoing. Some people may be happy and some may be unhappy…..there is no irregularity here."
