Ahmedabad: Nearly 150 passengers inside a Jetlite flight to Delhi panicked at the Ahmedabad airport when the pilot applied emergency brakes in the middle of the runway due to a technical snag.
The Ahmedabad-Delhi flight S2-122 was delayed by an hour before the take-off at 9.20 am. However, the nightmare for passengers began when the flight crossed 1.5 km on the runway. Suddenly, the passengers heard the screech of emergency brakes followed by an announcement asking them to stay calm, but that only added to the panic.
"The pilot suspected there was a technical problem after he heard some noise from the engine and applied brakes to avoid any untoward incident," said an airline official. Engineers were called to detect the snag, but found no major fault in the engine. The plane again left the hangar at 9.40 am.
The engineer detected that few batteries of the auxiliary power unit — that supplies power to an airplane was discharged. The batteries were re-charged before the airplane again left from the parking bay at 9.40 am.
