Airfare hike: Minister feels the pinch

New Delhi: In the past year, airfares have gone up eight times. And now it's beginning to hurt even the aviation minister.
The high fares are keeping away budget travellers and low cost carriers are making losses.
''The industry needs support. Almost every airline including national carrier are facing financial crunch,'' says Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel.
Last year, the Indian aviation industry talked of creating four million jobs in the next 10 years.
But now, there are fears that airlines might shut shop and thousands may actually lose their jobs.
