Chennai: In a major security lapse at the Chennai international airport on Saturday, a Tiger airways flight to Singapore took off with baggage of three passengers who had checked in but did not manage to get to the aircraft, a clear violation of civil aviation rules.
One of the stranded passengers Sucharita narrated the horrible incident when her family was all ready to board a plane from Chennai to Singapore. They had their boarding passes; the security check was done. But before they could reach the Tiger airways plane, it took off with their entire luggage.
''Who's going to look after my luggage? I don't know whether I'll get back or not,'' Sucharitra said.
After the Kanishka bombing, when more than 300 passengers died, civil aviation rules now clearly say that a plane cannot take off with a passenger's luggage if he does not board the plane.
