Berlin: The Indian air industry's strong growth was in the spotlight Tuesday at the Berlin Air Show, where the country's Jet Airways took delivery of a long-haul jet from European planemaker Airbus.
India is the official partner country this year at the show, held every two years. Jet Airways, one of some 25 Indian companies at the event, took delivery of an A330-200 at a ceremony to mark the occasion.
"India is experiencing the world's fastest passenger traffic growth in the near term and we are delighted to be a part of these exciting times through our partnership with Jet Airways," Airbus chief executive Tom Enders said.
The plane was one of a 15-aircraft order placed between 2005 and 2007.
Other Indian companies at the show include Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, which showed off a lightweight civilian and military helicopter, the Dhruv; and the Indian Space Research Organization.
The International Air Transport Association estimated that, over the next five years, aviation in India will grow by an annual rate of up to 10 percent.
